Common Workplace Injuries

Getting injured at work is an unfortunately very common experience. According to the US National Safety Council, 12,900 people are injured at work every day. That amounts to an injury every 7 seconds. Understanding Common Workplace Injuries is important.

If you’ve been injured at work, you may be wondering how to get back to your old self once again. There are a range of treatment options available for workplace injuries depending on what has happened, and many of these common workplace injuries can be helped by a Chiropractor. Here are just a few of them.

Repetitive Motion Injuries

Many jobs require you to continuously make the same motion over and over again in order to complete the task. This might mean typing on a keyboard if you work in an office, or cutting with scissors if you work at a salon or as a pet groomer.

Repetitive stress injuries can be extremely painful, and they can occur almost anywhere in the body. Chiropractic care can help by both breaking up scar tissue that may be immobilizing the joint, and loosening stiff joints so that they work better.

Back Injuries from Improper Lifting

Another common injury is a back injury after lifting a heavy object in an improper manner. A recent, 2018 study found that those who used chiropractic for lower back pain reported less pain, better function, and higher satisfaction with their treatment. They also did not need as many pain killers during their treatment.

Although this was a short term study, it does show that chiropractic is potentially useful for lower back pain.

Neck Injuries from Slips and Falls

One other common injury is neck pain from slipping and falling, or from other accidents at work. Slips and falls, along with related neck injuries, are among the most common types of injuries in the workplace.

Adjusting the bones in the neck may help bring your neck back into alignment, relieving pain and improving mobility. A 2007 study found that those who got a cervical spine adjustment, or an adjustment of the neck, showed significant improvement over those who didn’t.

Headaches

Although it may seem like a small thing to be concerned about, sitting in front of a computer for long periods of time can bring on tension headaches. In fact, if you must sit in the same position for a long period of time no matter what your work is, your work may be causing your headaches.

Chiropractic can also help with headaches like this, by providing gentle stretching and changes that help ease the tension, and with it the headaches. Your Chiropractor can also make recommendations to help prevent the headaches from happening again, such as getting up to stretch every 30 minutes during your work day.
